The double-jointed mouthpiece avoids the nutcracker action of a single joint, preventing the bit from hitting the roof of the mouth and gives the rider independent control over each side of the mouth.
The Gag design is intended to encourage the horse to raise its head and is commonly used on horses that tend to be heavy on the forehand. The Gag can be used with one or two reins, depending on the rider's preference.
